3.16.11 Field Agent Update: Kat Willet

I believe it was mid February I prayed that God would keep using me here as He did in Haiti. I know the type of work God would have me doing would look a lot different then it did in Haiti but I am open to anything and anywhere God would have me. I have been so blessed to have many opportunities to serve here at home with The Hunger Strike and our local shelters. I have been able to make many new friends at our Cold Weather shelter and even when the shelter closes for spring I will continue to seek them out and visit with them. The homeless are so misunderstood in our society but when you get to know them on a personal level you begin to understand what has brought them to this point in their lives. In underdeveloped countries we talk about how “generational poverty” is what causes places like Haiti and Africa to continually be in bondage. They are doing what their grandfathers and fathers did so how do they know any better? Volunteering at our shelter makes me realize the same thing is happening here where these people can’t get out of the hole they are in so they stop trying because no one is there to pull them out. Their kids grow up and still there is no one to help them out. Its a two fold situation of them having the courage, strength and desire to change and us being willing to put out our hand and walk with them. I have seen a group of people who are volunteering along side me and Jeremy put their hands out to help and God doing amazing things. Does it get dirty? Do people say one thing and not follow through? Does it feel pointless at times? Yes yes and yes but that doesn’t mean we get up, wash our hands and walk the other way but that we keep trying and loving on the lost and broken. Praise God he doesn’t just walk away when we get in hard situations that no one else would want to deal with. God is our example and that is the bottom line!

I am also blessed to have been able to help pack 10,000 meals which will feed and nourish families so far away. I was amazed at how little food fed so many and the nutrition these meals provided. With the new partnership The Hunger Strike has with Stop Hunger Now we are looking to pack meals as often as possible. Every $2,500 we collect we can pack and send out 10,000 meals. Check out how you can help with this by clicking here.

God has continued to open up doors with donations coming in for our adoption. We held a fundraiser at Chick-fi-la where we raised $2,300 to help bring our son home. The people that came out to this event blew me away. I knew less them half of them and each person had such a great word of encouragement for us. Praise God for continuing to show us He is in this. There is a slight valley we are in right now with the Ethiopian government cutting back on adoptions, but we know God is in control and He has a special child ready for Jeremy and I to love. If you would like to read more about our adoption and find ways to help click here.

When I asked God to keep me serving here in the states I had no idea what that looked like or meant, but He has kept me busy and I am so thankful. I thank God so much for each opportunity He is giving me here to serve in community and with The Hunger Strike Challenge.

Thank you again for all of your prayers and support as I surrender myself to God’s calling. Know that your support is not going to waste just because I am in the states serving but know that God is starting to break down walls here in Carroll County for His name to be praised!

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” – Colossians 3:12

3.14.11 – 10,000 Meals Packed!

We are raising the stakes! Within the 1st 2 weeks of the launch of “The Hunger Strike”, God blew away one of our 1st goals of seeing 10,000 meals packed for hungry children worldwide. Through sales of “The Stop Hunger Now Pack” & tour donations from “Jay & Nett” we raised enough money to pack 10,000 meals with our partner, “Stop Hunger Now”. Therefore, we are raising the goal of 10,000 meals to 100,000 meals!

Over 75 people joined us in Taneytown, MD to package nutritious meals. In a few weeks, we will find out exactly what country these meals impacted!
